UC Berkeley
>Environment:
Sony VAIO laptop, model fxa49. AMD Athlon 1.2GHz, booted from install CD using 4 CD installation
>Description:
In the text-display mode of sysinstall when the laptop is booted up from the first install CD of the 4.5 FreeBSD CD release, one can press the arrow key down to view the "install" (option 4) document under the FreeBSD Documentation menu of sysinstall up to (38%). Pressing down once more will change the value to (51%) discontinuously right after section "1.5.6 Tips for Serial Console Users" If one scrolls down and then scrolls back up past (51%), the text position will jump *down* to (61%). One must exit or press the home key to return to the start of the document.
>How-To-Repeat:
Boot up install CD, disable all (incorrectly identified) Ethernet drivers from top to bottom until there are no conflicts, save and exit, select docs from main menu, select "Install" from Docs menu. Scroll down.
>Fix:
All four install CDs were verified with md5sum prior to burning, and all CDs were verified by the burning software. The file does not seem to contain critical information not present in the Install section of the html handbook.
