pulseaudio is a build-only dependency, not required by binary packages.
In some cases OSS is not enough e.g., multiplexing, postprocessing or
integration with widgets/panels in GNOME/KDE (via DBus).

$ pkg rquery %dn firefox | fgrep pulse

Binary packages are supposed to be full-featured. If not SNDIO and JACK
would be disabled as well. ;)
