When I use vi to look at a file that I have copied over from DOS, I see a bunch of ^M characters, but they don't show up when I "cat" a file. I know they are carriage returns of some sort, but do they cause problems? Also, when I try to transfer a manpage (e.g. man chmod > chmod.txt) and transfer that to dos, I get a bunch of block characters and an unuseable mess. What am I doing wrong? -- Gordon P.
