Yes, this is almost next on my list of privilege-related cleanups now that I'm getting back to working on privileges for a bit. I believe we concluded that removing that check was entirely the right thing, and should resolve the privilege issues. However, I need to go back through and read my notes on this and make sure I'm thinking about things the right way (especially now they've been sitting for a few months).
