About 300MB (which is approximately the same amount of space as the sources
take)

My guess would be somewhere around 24 hours for a make world+kernel.

Data points:  Pentium 1 @ 133 MHz, 32 MB RAM : 11 hours
              386sx @ 33 MHz , 8 MB RAM : 5 days
