It isn't - not unless you are running FreeBSD 4.x or older (and then it
would have been Perl version 5.005_03.) 

Perl was removed from the base system (in what was then 5-CURRENT) back in
2002 and has certainly not been added back again.

Perl 5.8.8 has never been part of the base system, nor compiled by
buildworld.
