Note that the packages for ""8.x"", ie: "packages-8-stable" on i386 and
amd64, are still 7-8 months old. Other than that, I'm sure it's just a
miswording/oversight in the announcement/process.

There's also this curiously named remnant which could be removed:
ports/i386/packages-9.0-stable
