... so that anyone can walk up to your machine and suspend it?  Fair 
enough, for a laptop that's not really a problem.

You can save yourself the effort; read the manpage for 'kbdcontrol', 
and assign the function 'susp' to your desired key combination.

Obviously, someone's been there before.
