The zfs snapshot -r will not understand this though. zfstools is a utility to manage your snapshots and it uses zfs attributes to let you disable snapshots for a filesystem: zfs set com.sun:auto-snapshot -- that's an entirely fabricated attribute that the tool looks for so it knows to skip the snapshot.
