OK.
Can you read the archive as a normal file from the tape? eg dd=20
if=3D/dev/sa0 of=3D/tmp/foo

If so does it work? Are you getting errors reading from the drive, or=20
just the tar file is broken?

I don't really have any other suggestions though sorry.
