4.8-RC is usually 99.9% 4.8-RELEASE, so to speak. So, you should follow 
the general procedure, when you encounter such anomalies in -STABLE:
- Cvsup again, hoping that the bug (if it is a bug) might have been fixed.
- Post a message to the freebsd-stable list, mentioning your symptoms.
I will be cvsuping a few systems myself next week, so I sympathize very 
much your situation :-)
