As far as I've been able to tell, it hasn't been _that_ unstable anyway; I've been running kernels with all of the problems with less than one 'random crash' a day throughout the period. (I might have been having some memory loss; it has seemed that way.) The above is on my personal workstation; it has some load, but not too intense, of course. And YMMV. BTW: Thanks to John Dyson for the amount of work he has been putting down - John, remind me to buy you a beer if we meet :-) Eivind.
