Data point:  My Sony F707 used to work on -stable, now does not.  It does
work fine on -current.  From the log:

camcontrol rescan 0 was ok, but mount -t msdos /dev/da0s1 /dsc
said /dev/da0s1: device not configured.
/kernel: umass0: at uhub0 port 2 (addr 8) disconnected
/kernel: umass0: detached
