No you don't need X -you can run headless on the server. The VirtualBox manual gives details of this. 2. Yes, that's the whole point of virtual machines. 3. 9.1 is fine. 4. No comment. I don't use Windows (and prefer to keep it that way); only Unix, FreeBSD and Linux.
