I have proof that a 2.0.5 kernel can run correctly with all 2.1
binaries..
(i'm doing it here as the 2.0.5-> 2.1 upgrade failed and I'm about to try the
next versin of it ) :)
anyhow, you can upgrade all your binaries 'on the fly'
(shut down to single user mode first eh?)
as long as you get the libraries (shared) over first..
then replace the kernel and reboot
(mv init to init.old first)
(also manually replace the shell and anything else that might be still running)
(mv the old ones aside)
