Hello all, I've been trying to figure out why fam "can't register with portmapper" for a couple of weeks now and I'm completely stumped. I've searched the list archives, google, and the fam web site to no avail. The fam manpage is absolutely no help whatsoever, either. So, here's the situation: Portmap starts on boot up and then the fam.sh script in /usr/local/etc/rc.d starts fam after portmap. Fam runs for a little while and then I get the dreaded, "Cannot register service: RPC: Timed out...fam can't register with portmapper," message. Apparently, I'm the only one having this problem which means I'm probably overlooking some miniscule detail somewhere that the docs aren't mentioning. I need to get this working so that I can *finally* use KDE 2.2.1. Any help with be *immensely* appreciated. Please cc me in the reply as I'm not currently subbed to this list.
