Is your kernel up-to-date with your world? Did you install a new kernel,
then booted on it, then ran the make installworld?

What you should do is: make buildworld, make buildkernel, make
installkernel, reboot (single-user to see if the new kernel boots
properly), make installworld, mergemaster.
