Totally inappropriate response. This is a *real* problem on a brand-new
machine with the latest hardware. It deserves to be looked at. I am more
than willing to do whatever is necessary to debug the problem if I get
decent guidance from someone who knows the kernel code.

As it stands, I can't even get FreeBSD to boot on a brand-new out-of-the-box
Compaq Presario. Who takes the heat on this? Compaq or FreeBSD? Think about
it.

Mailing lists are not a substitute for a problem reporting and management
system. The gnats system is the *first* place to look for known problems and
solutions. It provides historical data and excellent reference for finding
similar problems.

You are doing a disservice to someone else who runs into this problem and
sees "closed; see the mailing list" in gnats. I'm shocked and dismayed by
your attitude.

At the very least, keep this report open, and offer suggestions for
troubleshooting the problem. If the solution ultimately comes from the
mailing lists, then we can enter the resolution here to benefit others.

Paul
