This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_003F_01BFA879.928D34A0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I have just been installing a fresh build of FreeBSD 4.0 STABLE and I have come across a problem that is irritating me to no end. During my first start of the GNOME Desktop environment the whole system froze and then when I restarted it (eventually using the hard reset on the box after ctrl-alt-backspace and ctr-alt-delete didn't work and when an attempt to telnet in externally revealed everything was frozen) fsck found significant damage to the system. Now, I have been locked out of logging in by an error message stating that ld-elf.so.1 and libcrypt.so.2 are corrupt. I can log in in single user mode thanks to the good old troubleshooting sections of the handbook, but my network doesn't seem to be up & running so I can't replace the files. I would appreciate it if someone with /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1 and /usr/lib/libcrypt.so.2 from version 4.0 could e-mail them to me. Or if someone has another solution please let me know... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chairperson of the UVic Students' Society Local 44 of the Canadian Federation of Students (250) 721-8370 Work & Fax (250) 472-4379 JOIN The campaign for higher education... www.cfs.bc.ca ------=_NextPart_000_003F_01BFA879.928D34A0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dwindows-1252" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2314.1000" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN class=3D420220521-17042000>I = have just been=20 installing a fresh build of FreeBSD 4.0 STABLE and I have come across a = problem=20 that is irritating me to no end. </SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000></SPAN></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN = class=3D420220521-17042000>During my first=20 start of the GNOME Desktop environment the whole system froze and then = when I=20 restarted it (eventually using the hard reset on the box after=20 ctrl-alt-backspace and ctr-alt-delete didn't work and when an attempt to = telnet=20 in externally revealed everything was frozen) fsck found = significant damage=20 to the system.</SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000></SPAN></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000>Now</SPAN></FONT><FONT face=3D"Love = LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000>, I have been locked out of logging in by an = error=20 message stating that ld-elf.so.1 and libcrypt.so.2 are=20 corrupt. </SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000></SPAN></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN class=3D420220521-17042000>I can = log in in=20 single user mode thanks to the good old troubleshooting sections of the=20 handbook, but my network doesn't seem to be up & running so I can't = replace=20 the files.</SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN=20 class=3D420220521-17042000></SPAN></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN class=3D420220521-17042000>I = would=20 appreciate it if someone with /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1 and=20 /usr/lib/libcrypt.so.2 from version 4.0 could e-mail them to=20 me.</SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><SPAN class=3D420220521-17042000>Or if = someone has=20 another solution please let me know...</SPAN></FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"> <HR> </DIV> <DD> <P align=3Dcenter></FONT></FONT><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"><FONT = color=3D#400040=20 size=3D4><A href=3D"mailto:chair@uvss.uvic.ca">Chairperson</A> of the <A = href=3D"http://www.uvss.uvic.ca/"=20 style=3D"BACKGROUND-COLOR: rgb(255,255,255); COLOR: rgb(0,0,0)">UVic = Students'=20 Society</A> Local 44 of the <A href=3D"http://www.cfs-fcee.ca/"=20 style=3D"BACKGROUND-COLOR: rgb(255,255,255); COLOR: rgb(0,0,0)">Canadian = Federation of Students</A></FONT><FONT size=3D3></FONT></P> <P align=3Dcenter></FONT><FONT color=3D#400040 face=3D"Love LetterTW" = size=3D4>(250)=20 721-8370 Work & Fax (250) 472-4379</FONT><FONT size=3D2></P></FONT> <DIV align=3Dcenter> <CENTER></DIV> <DT><FONT face=3D"Love LetterTW"> </FONT></CENTER></DT> <DIV align=3Dcenter> <CENTER> <TABLE bgColor=3D#0000ff border=3D0 cellPadding=3D2 cellSpacing=3D10 = width=3D"69%"> <TBODY> <TR> <TD width=3D"15%"> <P align=3Dcenter><FONT=20 face=3D"Franklin Gothic Heavy"><BIG><BIG><BIG><BIG><BIG><A=20 href=3D"http://www.cfs.bc.ca/" style=3D"COLOR: rgb(255,255,0)" = color=3D"#400040"=20 vlink=3D"#400040"=20 = link=3D"400040">JOIN</A></BIG></BIG></BIG></BIG></BIG></FONT></P></TD> <TD width=3D"85%"> <P align=3Dleft><FONT color=3D#ffff00><FONT face=3D"Love = LetterTW"><BIG>The=20 campaign for higher education</BIG>...<BR><A = href=3D"http://www.cfs.bc.ca/"=20 style=3D"COLOR: = rgb(255,255,0)"><BIG>www.cfs.bc.ca</BIG></A></FONT></FONT></P></TD></TR><= /TBODY></TABLE></CENTER></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <P> </P> <DIV> </DIV></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_003F_01BFA879.928D34A0-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
