Running /stand/sysinstall and telling to do a post-install
configuration will allow you to go to the ports part. You can the tell
the system to go off the FTP sites and there are enough to test out
and get working.
(Might want to have a PPP connection established, though :) )

I've run into a prob once or twice with the main ftp.freebsd.org site
(overload, I suspect), but ftp3.freebsd.org seems to work flawlessly
:)
Hope this helps

P.S. To save you some trouble: don't kick sleeping dogs, upgrade
stable systems or piss off dragons - humans taste great with catchup
:)

| Hi folks,
|
| Sorry to sould dumb, but I've only just recovered from my last
| system screw
| up, which may have tought me to not kick sleeping dogs, or
| upgrade stable
| systems.
|
| At any rate, I've not had much luck trying to find ports to
| download for
| this new (to me) 3.1 system
|
| The ftp.freebsd.org server tells me that I can cd to any
| directory where
| there are ports for 3.1.
|
| I'm actually only looking for stuff to downloand to use in my
| X, including
| Netscape and Wingz,
|
| Any have a URL for ports for FreeBSD 3.1?
|
| Thanks
|
| dg
