If there's a _hardware_ crash (e.g. power outage) which causes a track write of the HDD to be interrupted, you will get corruption. There is *no* file system that protects you from such damage, except probably Sun's ZFS in a mirror configuration (because of its COW, checksumming and self-healing features).
