Thanks for that. Do you know if UFS2 dynamically allocates inodes ? - aW http://mail-index.netbsd.org/current-users/2003/04/02/0005.html ...so read the UFS1 paper, and everywhere it talks about "32bit block offset", mentally substitute "64bit block offset".
