I'm working on setting up a sony vaio pcg-z505hsk w/ 4.5-RELEASE-p5. Things are going nicely, but I'm having a problem with getting sound to work. I've built/installed a kernel with device pcm rebooted. cat /dev/sndstat says: FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) May 29 2002 10:26:27 Installed devices: pcm0: <Yamaha DS-1E (YMF744)> at memory 0xfecf0000 irq 9 (4p/2r/0v channels duplex) Which seems right (same device the laptop reports under linux on my Z505-JE). I built/installed xmms from the current ports tree. I figured out that I needed to turn off the sound component of gnome/enlightenment (esnd) so that it didn't hog the device. Now, when I try to use xmms to listen to something, e.g. xmms http://scastsrv2.shoutcast.com:8002/ I get a buzzing sound instead of music. Sometimes I think that I hear a split second of real sound before it goes off into buzzer mode, but I have trouble reproducing it.
