If I recall correctly, nothing higher than -O is recommended for building
world. BTW, I have been using march-pentiumpro for a long time now and
have never had a problem. As the others have suggested, you need to edit
/etc/make.conf

I'd try -pipe -march=pentiumpro -O to see if it works. If not, drop the
-O.
