I think it may just be the ASUS SMP configuration, mostly because of my
experience with Solaris 8 x86. I did have 4.3-rel. running on the VP-6
(abit's dual board based on the same VIA chipset), but I did not stress
it.

Can you revert back to 4.3-rel. ?
