And after you've read the handbook, I'd follow the advice I saw posted
here a while ago that suggests running CVSUP with the tag to get the exact
source release you may have already installed.  From what I understand,
this lets CVSUP take "ownership" of the source tree so that it can
edit/delete at will when you actually go to the 2.2.2 or 2.2-stable
release.  Following that advice saved me hours of troubleshooting that
which I don't understand (Thanks JDP!)...

And if that is the correct way to do it, could it be added to the handbook
entry about CVSUP?  It would save everyone lots of headaches, I'm sure.
