I never had that problem either and my machines were always left on. Each one had hardware that was shared across the network. You also can't access your support files from the network if they are turned off. I wondered at times if it was what you had installed. The system at work and at home were 950a's. There were features I didn't turn on. I never beta tested 98 so I didn't see it until the release.
