Thanks Oliver, I didnt have a test system to play with and I didnt find the ifconfig man pages very clear and it didnt specify if there could be more than one alias per interface (I already had one configured) and I didnt want to change the IP of the existing alias. But seeing that you have mutliple aliases I gave it a go and it worked fine! Thanks a lot! cheers Andy.
