I flashed to the latest BIOS for the 560X this morning, reinstalled
4.2R from boot floppy and FTP, but no joy -- same disk spin-up/down
problem.

The problem was not present when I installed 3.5 yesterday; what's
changed in the ata/wd disk drivers? Or is this an APM type of problem?
