Hi:
I had a similar problem with a USB keyboard. To get around the boot loader,
you can try the following:

1. As soon as you see the Keyboard: no" message, hit the space bar.
2. You will then get a "boot:" prompt. Type "-Dh" (no parenthesis, of
course) at that prompt.

In my case, after I got by this hurdle with the boot loader (which is only
preparing the system for booting the OS), I had another problem after the
FreeBSD operating system booted. I found that my system, which had a USB
keyboard and mouse, also had some hidden PS/2 ports. FreeBSD does not
support USB "out-of-the-box" and was, I believe, looking for keyboard input
from the PS/2 ports. Ultimately, I had to purchase a PS/2 keyboard and
mouse.

I have an Acer Aspire 1640.

If you like, you can read more about my problem and conclusions at the
freebsd-current.freebsd.org mailing list (just posted today).

John
