Can you be sure of that under all circumstances? It seems to me that the vmstat format is somewhat obsolete. Obviously we need to maintain compatibility for the sake of existing scripts, but they don't care about 80 character maxima (I hope). How about thinking about how to make the output more configurable? The same applies to iostat, where it would be nice to be able to specify specific devices to monitor, rather than just classes of devices.
