Hello, The Adaptec AHA2842 (Vesa Local Bus card) works fine with FreeBSD 2.1. I'm using one in a FreeBSD PC at work. It's only got one HD hooked up to it. - Peter Schwenk, Academic Computing, West Chester University of PA - pschwenk@wcupa.edu ---------- From: Doug White[SMTP:dwhite@riley-net170-164.uoregon.edu] Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 1996 7:34 AM To: Steve Chen Cc: questions@FreeBSD.org; stevec@msn.com Subject: Re: installation On Wed, 29 May 1996, Steve Chen wrote: > 80486 CPU: 66MHz > One adaptec 2840vl/2842vl SCSI controller which control my quad speed SONY > CDROM. > One EIDE controller with an 814MB hard drive. > One NE2000 compatible ethernet card. > One 14.4Kbps internal fax modern. > A Diamond Stealth SE video card with 1M memory on board. > A 15" MAGVAVOX MAGNASCAN/15 monitor with Horizontal frequency:30-66KHz and > Vertical frequence 50-11Hz. My guess would be that you whould have to get a new scsi controller if that was the problem. If you don't like adaptec you could get a NCR scsi controller for $120 or so. > > (3) The original disk Geometry was: 1654 cyls/ 16 heads/ 63 sectors > During the repartition, the disk Geometry became: 827 cyls/ 32 heads/63 > sectors > And a disk space disagrement message would display while > installation. Try putting a small DOS partition on, then while installing FreeBSD delete it and put the FBSD partition over it. The DOS partition helps sysinstall determine the proper geometry.
