I thought mysql is controlled from /usr/local/etc/rc.d/mysql-server. At least that is what I have. I am running FreeBSD 8.0, 7.x and some 6.x and 5.5 and all are the same. It runs! You need some lines in /etc/rc.conf to make the syatem start mysql server!
