I know. That is why I am post ing and not committing. I need the guidance
of those wiser than me...

This does not touch the ftp stuff, and the CDROM stuff for an O'Reilly 
CDROM is broken if you do not have X installed already, so this is a 
pure CDROM bug fix. It is also a good code clean-up.
