With this alias nothing would ever be written to /var/mail/sql.
Your error message may just be telling you that you can't do
something that you don't need to do anyway :)

Also, /usr/local/bin/a.out will be executed as user daemon
(I think, but it won't be sql) so make sure a.out has world
execute privs (and world read if it's really a script). And
look at various directory and file permissions with that in
mind.
