Did it spit a line like

panic: fatal trap 12 while in kernel mode

or something?

Did you turn off block mode as well for the disks?  This seems to be the 
major problem.

There have been people asking about the sb16 pnp's, I think someone 
whipped up some code to get them working, but it's most likely in 
-current if it is even committed.
