Please note that the ftp server at ftp.freebsd.org runs wu-ftpd which allows you to tell get foo.tar.gz, and you get the whole directory tree rooted at foo as a nice gzipped tar file. I would advise against getting the whole freebsd that way since you will violate export restrictions on cryptographic codes. Instead, go into the freebsd repository (2.1-RELEASE, whatever) and get it directory-by-directory, tar-gzipped. Please avoid the directory securedist; get it from internat.freebsd.org /Marino
