Actually, the 3.4 CD's are perfectly useable if you just get the updated
mfsroot.flp image from ftp.cdrom.com
(ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/3.4-RELEASE/floppies/updates/
mfsroot.flp).
