            Bug ID: 211128
Summary: sh(1)'s read built-in should support -s option
                    ("silent mode")
           Product: Base System
           Version: 11.0-STABLE
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: bin
          Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: ngie@FreeBSD.org

Both sh and zsh support "silent mode", which basically doesn't output echoed
characters. This is really helpful for reading in data like passwords.
