>Description:
I suspect this is related to recent major ATA-code MFC (on Mar 16 by
sos). It stopped working after those bits were committed. Before that,
everything worked just fine. Sorry, I do not have "boot-verbose" dmesg
output handy right now, but here's my one anyway:

After this, new kernel stops booting. Old one continues as:

acd0-5: CDROM with 6 CD changer <CD-C68E> at ata1-master using PIO4
acd6-11: CDROM with 6 CD changer <CD-C68E> at ata1-slave using PIO4
Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a

>How-To-Repeat:
Plug those CD-C68E CD-changers in, and try to boot GENERIC after Mar 16.
Watch the kernel freeze.
>Fix:
None known to me.
