A quick grep in /sys/i386/isa on that machine implys that the ie
driver does BPF and has something to do with the Intel chip set.

Any idea if it works with an EtherExpress16 card?

It's scheduled to be replaced with another box, probably running
3.5-STABLE.  I'm a trailing technology kind of guy when it comes to
production machines.
