Subject:   Why installing ports on a computer?

I was thinking to that: ports are changing every week, if not often.
Well, like ports need internet to be usefull, why installing them on the
computer?
With FTP or Lynx, you can go on FreeBSD.org and get the last ports.
In both way, you need internet but in the second way, you do not waste
space and dont download old apps.

So why installing ports on the computer?
