Alas, I found *what* is going on differently depending on the library used. With libc_r, dup2() gets called and fails, preventing execution of konsole_grantpty, with libthr things work, konsole_grantpty gets called and... ttyname fails. :-) Now, dup2() implementation seems to differ between libc_r and libthr (though I'm open to be shown that is not so -- I don't quite understand how things work here). I have verified that by preventing execution of /usr/local/bin/konsole_grantpty (by the simple artifice of renaming it), the problem DOES NOT HAPPEN. Now... to find out what's different between both dup2() implementations... -- Daniel C.
