Are you using the acd0c device node? Did you remake the devices with the
new systems /dev/MAKEDEV? 

Current -STABLE has acd0a and acd0c being the SAME minor number, which
is different from 4.5-RELEASE (I believe). 

Current dev nodes on a 4.6-RC system:
$ cd /dev
$ ls -l acd*
crw-r-----  4 root  operator  117,   0 May 16 16:44 acd0a
crw-r-----  4 root  operator  117,   0 May 16 16:44 acd0c
crw-r-----  4 root  operator  117,   8 May 16 16:44 acd1a
crw-r-----  4 root  operator  117,   8 May 16 16:44 acd1c
$ date
Fri Jun  7 15:39:38 CDT 2002
$ grep FreeBSD MAKEDEV
# $FreeBSD: src/etc/MAKEDEV,v 1.243.2.47 2002/04/21 19:47:06 will Exp $
# minor         Linux                   FreeBSD
$
