You really only need to restart the machine to install a new kernel. To
get 'init' to re-read /etc/ttys, simply send it a HUP signal:

	kill -HUP 1

(init is _always_ process 1)

It gets started in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0".
