Not sure.  You want to start with the Modula3 stuff, and that means JDP.

I would certainly kill for something better than cup or CTM for tracking
other systems; ftp-ing base deltas or using sup is like swimming in 
warm manure - you'll do it for the gold ingot at the bottom, but not
because you like it.
