That is good. But puhlease read in the handbook about making world and all
that good stuff. UPDATING is a "up to the minute" (sic) document. You
still need everything in the handbook.

Notably, buildkernel does nat upgrade the entire system. From you message,
I would guess you are missing some BIG steps.
