I just did a quick test using 25 dirs deep. Mkisofs just makes an image
that I can mount using the vn device. I'll try on Monday if this also
works when I put the image on a CD-R.

If it works I'm gonna wage war on the (commercial) software people we
use the mastering software from at work. 8/
