I don't know why the termcap entry for "xterm" (and others probably)
doesn't list the "metakey" option "km" but I'll bet there is a reason.
The first thing I do with a new installation is edit "/etc/termcap" and
add "km" to the xterm entry and everything is fine.  This may work for
you too.  -virgil
