Could it just be a particular BIOS setting affecting things as well ?  I
didnt look at the issue too closely, but on the SMP box below, I was having
inital problems until I re assigned the IRQs to be on more sane values if I
recall correctly (e.g not 9/11 or shared with something else).  I believe I
also looked at some DMA settings in the BIOS, but it has been a while since
I set this particular box up.  On the box below, the IRQ values displayed
in the dmesg, are not the same as what is displayed at boot up time.  With
it, I did get a few fxp time outs and such and the box did panic once.  It
could be something totally unrelated, but this discussion does ring a bell
with me.
